Impact

Language learners need to practice speaking and listening with fluent/conversational speakers because they need feedback and real world practice.

Problem

Language learners need to have access to fluent/conversational speakers to gain new language skills and real world practice. Language learners need a platform where they can connect with fluent/conversational speakers while keeping their busy schedules in mind.

Solution

The Gabology app will provide language learners the opportunity to connect and practice a new language with fluent/conversational speakers within their time constraints.

Research Phase:

After conducting interviews and viewing survey results, combined with Persona iterations it was determined that

  • People want to learn another language for cultural interests, to speak to one another, to understand music and movies/television.

  • It is preferred to have someone they can practice with.

  • Prefer to choose the topic of learning.

Planning Phase:

After working with my partner to decide the features for the mobile app and making a journey map, we quickly followed up with a user flow and then moved into creating wireframes.

Prototype Phase

My partner and I both made paper wireframes and combined the best of both to create a Lo-fidelity prototype. After getting some feedback we made some minor iterations.

Challenges Encountered

The biggest challenge we ran into was when our ideas were in conflict as there was not a third member to be a tiebreaker. Fortunately we were able to come to a consensus quickly and taught me to look at the project/design from a different point of view.

Future Development

The goal of the project was to create a Lo-fi prototype, but if this hypothetical mobile app would continue to be worked on I would do the following:

  • Prototype out how a tutorial would go through the app to help the user better understand how to use it

  • create a Hi fidelity version to further hammer out the overall design/details

  • Look into more topics of discussion that would be to our users interests.
